The Principal, Inge Southcott, MBBS, BMUS (Voice), MMUS (Vocal Pedagogy), BFA, AMUSA (Piano) practiced as a doctor for 10 years before becoming a professional opera singer with Opera Australia. Her medical knowledge (including 5 years in psychiatric training ) and her continuing interest in the physiology and psychology of singing enables her to recognise and rectify unhealthy habits and ensures that her students develop a free and healthy technique. Her teaching method builds confidence, especially in adolescents. She has had extensive experience teaching children under 12 and gives them a sound basis of musicianship to empower them as they progress and enables them to become outstanding choristers.
Her training in the Kodaly method means she has an effective and enjoyable way of teaching her students musicianship and sight reading.
Her advanced piano skills enable her to accompany in lessons and performances and to produce useful backing tracks for practising.
As a Music Educator of the New England Conservatorium of Music, her students are entitled to apply for scholarships and bursaries from the Conservatorium, and to attend master classes and workshops organised by the Conservatorium.
